Kindergarten Math Online: Math Activities for Kindergarten

Kindergarten Math Online: Math Activities for Kindergarten
The possibilities are endless with some help online. Math activities for kindergarten are fun and engaging for your student to complete. Not only that: they are easy to find right from your own computer. With some digging (and sometimes a printer), you’ll have your kindergartener practicing math with a smile in no time.

Math Activities vs Traditional Worksheet Practice

If you gave your kindergartener the option to complete a worksheet or to play a math game, which would they choose? If your child chose the first option over the second, we’re in shock. We can safely say that the vast majority of kids would prefer hands-on activities. And it’s not just about what they like better—it’s about their fundamental understanding of the things they learn in kindergarten math. Online, offline, at home, or at school, engaging activities are proven to work better than plain paper and pencil. This is not to discount the value of traditional schoolwork; knowing how to complete the problems on a regular worksheet is still a valuable skill. However, as an educator and a mom, I've learned that limiting students to that is less effective overall. Not all learners are the same—so why should they all be doing the same things? Online math activities for kindergarten are the perfect way to branch out and find some effective, engaging practice for your student. [workbook=14031][workbook=12168][workbook=12183]...

Printables

Printables, aptly named, are activities that you can print out for your child to complete. They come in many forms. While there are many free options available, it may be worth it to look into some paid printables as well. Many of them come in packages and some sites may provide a discount if you choose a bundle of some kind, rather than picking them out individually.  Kindergarten Math Online Math Activities for Kindergarten One of the first printable activities for kindergarten math online that we recommend are coloring pages. While your child is likely pretty new to math, they certainly aren’t new to coloring. When you put the two together, you’ve got a fun activity that your kindergartener loves and a healthy amount of math practice mixed in. Coloring pages provide visual examples for your child to observe as they color. As your child works their magic with those markers, follow along with them. Quiz them a little as they color. Ask them to talk about the examples they see and explain a few of the problems. (After all, you don’t want them to forget about the math portion of the activity.)  Printables Math Activities for Kindergarten

Printable Board Games

Another of the many online math activities for kindergarten are printable board games. This is a great way to get some practice in! It involves not only their eyes and their ears but their hands as well. There are board games to practice counting, to identify shapes and many more. What better incentive to learn math than to win a game? Play a printable math game with your child and, you guessed it, quiz them as you go along. Perhaps they must name the color and the shape of the spot their pawn lands on. Or perhaps, they must count the number of shapes in a spot their pawn lands on. Remember to provide positive reinforcement as you proceed with the game.

Math Tools, Toys, and More

[subscribe=20543] Your child loves to play! Why not find them some hands-on math toys? There are options to fit any budget and any household. They’ll have so much fun, they won’t even realize they’re practicing kindergarten math. Online stores provide endless playthings to choose from. There are number tiles, stackable blocks, and magnetic toys. They also have color and number matching toys, counting models, you name it. What does your child enjoy? Is it animals, food, Legos, or robots? Something else? Whatever their favorite, there’s a math toy out there for them. A little internet searching is all it takes.

Math toys bring touch, vision, and sometimes audio learning together. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: more senses involved equals more understanding.

No printer? Can't find room for more toys? No problem. Kindergarten math online games work well as a fun practice method. They are colorful, directly engaging, and designed to be a lot of fun. Just be sure that the games are still a little challenging and, of course, math-related. (As fun as Flappy Bird is, it leaves a lot to be desired in the math department.)
